Jazz at Crowborough United Church

Minister January 13th, 2012

We’re excited about Jazz Church – a monthly event blending uplifting music with inspiring worship! The launch is this Sunday (15 Jan) at 4pm, and all are welcome.

As well as local jazz instrumentalists, Jazz Church includes an open choir that meets on the day, an hour before the service, to rehearse and learn some of the music. If you’d like to come and sing, it would be great to hear from you beforehand (email jazz[at]unitedchurch[dot]org[dot]uk) – but don’t worry if that’s not possible, just turn up on the day!

Find sanctuary: 4pm this Sunday

Minister December 2nd, 2011

sanctuary, at Crowborough United Church

Drawing on the spirituality and patterns of christian communities at Taizé, Iona and elsewhere, sanctuary incorporates space and silence, darkness and light, sacred texts and simple music.

All are welcome at sanctuary, and no-one will pester or preach at you. Seating arrangements? Informal: there’s space for chairs or cushions, so sit or kneel – and feel free to shuffle if you need to. If you want to linger afterwards for prayer or conversation, that’s fine; but if you would prefer to slip away quietly, that’s fine too.

Here are links to some of the songs we’ll be using at sanctuary this Sunday:

Santo, santo, santo

Laudate Dominum

Send out your light

O Lord, hear my prayer (link to Polish version, but we will use English text)

In the Lord I’ll be ever thankful

Lord Jesus Christ (link to French version, but again, we’ll use an English translation)

‘Toy Service’ this Sunday

Minister November 30th, 2011

At our 10.30am service we’ll be glad to receive donations of toys (new but not gift-wrapped), which will be sent on for distribution via the Salvation Army.

As we prepare for the coming Christmas celebration, in our own households and in the fellowship of church, it’s so important to make of our giving a reflection of God’s boundless generosity. For we believe that Jesus came not just for a special few, but for everyone; not just to those who had earned God’s favour, but to all who needed to receive God’s grace.

That’s why at the United Church we hold a Toy Service each year, ensuring that all the donated toys go to children who face real difficulty in their lives – children who need to know that they are cared about, not forgotten.

It’s by no means the end of our responsibility to bring good news people in need, of course. But at this time of the year, it’s a very good start.
